Happy 2nd birthday dear Quinn. Has it really been another year? Time flies! This year you started talking and we are amazed at how your vocabulary has grown over the year. Here are some memories and milestones from your 2nd year of life.
April 2008: We took you to your first outdoor music festival at the Charleston Tea Plantation where you got to see Mike Daughty. You also got your front two top teeth.
May 2008: You love giving hugs and nuzzling under our chins. You are running now! You love Derby but pull her tail quite often. You love books and pay no attention to the TV, you love pancakes, and you love getting your teeth brushed by your daddy. You giggle constantly. You are showing a preference for using your left hand—a lefty maybe, like your Grandma Sherrie.
June 2008: You LOVE ice cream—you like it so much that you stand next to me while I am scooping it out and smack your lips. You’ve learned how to sign for “more.” You point at objects. You sit when you are told and you shake your head yes and no. You are not a big fan of being scolded and cry when we yell at you. You are constantly saying “hmmm” “hmmm.” You like opening and closing doors. You said Dada for the first time!

July 2008: Your new cousin Sebastian Sanchez was born. You love flipping over your play table and standing on it. You eat just about everything and whatever you don’t like you throw to Derby. You got your first pair of Crocs. You are a ball full of energy—from sun up to sun down.
August 2008: We went to Hilton Head Island for our first family vacation with Daddy’s friends, Chuck and Kristi, and your Aunt Nicole and Uncle Nate. You swam in a pool for the first time, ate sand, rode on the back of bike, and said Momma for the first time! You have two new teeth—top molars. You got better at using a fork and spoon. You were obsessed with the book Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you see? We went to your first gym class at Gymboree. You took your first ride in the MG—sitting on my lap. You started sleeping with a blanket.

September 2008: You love raisins and bike rides. You throw temper tantrums and stomp your feet. You ate Derby’s food for the first time. You enjoy going grocery shopping with us and you like crossing items off the list. We found out that you are going to be a big brother in the summer of 2009. Your daddy bought me a bike with a baby carrier so we could ride around the neighborhood—you really enjoyed your bike rides
October 2008: You figured out how to turn on and off the kitchen lights. For Halloween, you dressed up as a skunk with “little stinker’ written on the backside. We took you out trick or treating—you were interested in everything but the candy! You got two new teeth—top 2 molars.

November 2008: Your doggy, Derby, turned 6 in November. We spent Thanksgiving in Charleston, SC, and then headed to Pittsburgh, PA, the day after Thanksgiving for a week. We visited with friends and family. We told everyone that you were going to be a big brother. You went to Chuck E. Cheese for the first time with Grandma Celine and Uncle Vincent.

December 2008: We celebrated Christmas in Charleston, SC, with your Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. Santa brought you a bubble lawn mower and you loved it! We took you to the Festival of Lights and you really enjoyed all the Christmas lights. You took your first ride on a speed boat—Elina and Joe, the neighbors, took us out on their boat and even let you steer the boat! You started gymercize at school and love your gym class on Tuesdays.

January 2009: Your Mommy and Daddy met 9 years ago this month! You went to your first jump house and you were not a big fan. You ate some of Daddy’s super spicy nachos and said “hot.” You battled teething and a cold in January. It snowed for the first time in Charleston since you were born, but melted before it hit the ground. You learned to cover your mouth when you cough. You have developed a love of ketchup.

February 2009: You had your first ER visit--you came down with a nasty stomach bug for several days. You were not a happy camper and all you wanted to do was to be held. We found out that you will have a little baby brother in June. We started working on your new room. You are obsessed with animals so we decorated your new room with animal prints—cows, monkey, tiger, and zebras. Mommy turned 30! Steelers won the Superbowl! You tried blackberries for the first time. You learned how to walk up and down the stairs assisted. We traveled with KY to see old friends and meet new ones. You got to meet with Brechting triplets—Ryland, Leighton, and Paxton. You also got to meet Meghan and Pierce Mundell. The Brechting boys taught you how to jump off the couch.

March 2009: You kiss your own boo boos. You got your first real boo boo—you were running in the driveway and you wiped out. You walk around the house pointing to your boo boo and say “boo boo.” You made your first trip to church since your baptism. You did great and we kept you occupied by feeding you fruit snacks. We went to the Charleston Aquarium for the first time—you loved the snake and skunk! We went to Holden Beach for a short visit with our friends, Kenne and Amanda, and their dog Bo. You learned how to do a forward roll. You go into the pantry closet and point to the fruit snacks and say “fruit snack, fruit snack” until we give you a fruit snack. You LOVE grape juice and ask for it all the time. You’ve gotten into this stage of putting food in your mouth, chewing it, and then spitting it out onto your plate or giving it to the dog. You LOVE being outside and point out all the cars driving by the house or birds flying in the sky. Daddy’s intramural basketball team placed first in their league this year. We found out Daddy’s grant score (133—awesome!) and threw a pizza party with the neighbors. You helped Mommy weed the flower bed with your very own pair of gardening gloves. You found a baby blanket (taggie) that we bought you when you were a baby and now you sleep with it every night, along with 4 stuffed animals, and take it to daycare.

April 2009: Hard to believe that by the end of this month you will be 2! Where has the time gone! Your cousins, Careen, Deren, Deven, and Brenden came to visit you in Charleston for the first time. We took you to the beach and the children’s museum. You enjoyed playing with your cousins. UNC won the national championship for basketball. We finished up your new big boy room and moved you into your new room in mid-April. You went on your first paddle boat ride on a lake on James Island. You enjoyed your Easter basket and the Easter bunny left you all kinds of goodies. Daddy got a big promotion—Dr. Patrick Mulholland, Research Assistant Professor. Go Daddy!

Happy 2nd birthday Quinn! We can’t believe that you are now a toddler! You jammed packed this year—you went from not talking to talking up a storm, from being carried up and down the stairs to walking up and down the stairs assisted, you went from not being able to vocalize what you want to making sure we know exactly what you want, and you went from sleeping in the nursery to moving into your big boy room. We are looking forward to many more happy and special times with you in the coming year. We are also looking forward to you becoming a big brother to baby Egan in June.

Happy Birthday Quinn!!!! We love you so much and hope you enjoy your special day! I just know that your grandma and grandpa Hudak are smiling down from heaven sending you their birthday wishes. You have made your parents so proud and happy......your accomplishments in two years are amazing! We can't wait to see you in a few months. Thinking of you today and wishing you a wonderful 2nd birthday!!
